Easter at The Journey 2018’s logo was a physical installation that required a trip to Hobby Lobby to find a variety of flowers and plants to put together the final product. We then used these shots and others to create a full brand package for the rest of the promotion leading up to the service. My goal was to go beyond the 2D graphics the congregation was used to seeing week after week. To bring to life something that gives so much depth to the Christian tradition was not a small feat.
In the Christian Tradition - Easter is a celebration of the resurrection of Christ. The resurrection happened with a physical stone rolling away from a tomb that the king of jews was buried in. 3 days later, He rose from the dead and old was turned new. This is the core understanding of Christian tradition. How to visually tell that story with the depth of thousands of years of historical cultural understanding spread across millennia, races, continents, and religions in a single weekend? Not possible. So what do we do? We try and tell stories of our own lives with metaphors, themes and abstract concepts that relate to our life here and now to hopefully help walk away understanding a little sliver of the complex depth of the story of Christ better.
